Toys For Your Rabbit

Here are some toy ideas for your rabbit:

Plastic baby teething toys (great for your bunny to chew on, toss, etc.)
Untreated willow balls from a craft store (stuff them with hay and cover them with natural craft paper for extra fun)
Empty or hay stuffed toilet paper tubes (paint them with food dye)
Go to the dollar store and see what sisal rope cat toys are there
Pinecones (washed and baked at low temp for 2 hours or dried for 4 months)
Box filled with shredded newspaper for digging fun (only pages with blk. ink)

Your bunnies need toys to play with to help keep them entertained. Toys also mentally stimulate your rabbit so they will live longer, and wood toys help keep their teeth healthy.

The Cost Of Having A Rabbit

The cost of having a pet rabbit isn't very much. Buying things used off of usedeverywhere.com or kijiji.com can save you a lot of money. Also, going to Value Village to buy plastic baby teething toys for your rabbit is another good idea.

Rabbit Treats

I would suggest that you didn't feed your rabbits treats from the pet store, but that you should make them yourselves.

To make them treats use ground up pellets instead of flour, pureed carrots or bananas for a binder and some oats mixed in there somewhere, or even sprinkled on top. Then you just bake them in the oven until crispy.

Where To Get A Rabbit

I suggest that if you really want a rabbit, that you adopt one from a shelter. The ones at shelters are probably healthier than most rabbits at pet stores, and you most likely won't end up with a HUGE vet bill if you get one from a shelter. You also most likely won't end up with a pregnant bunny.

My Rabbits

I have two wonderful rabbits. I love them SO much!! I have a male rabbit named Ikks and a female rabbit named Lily.

I got Lily from the humane society when we needed to get Ikks a friend because his mother some how got out of the yard during play time. We now think she is pregnant because we let her and Ikks out on the deck to play together. She is about eleven days in.

I got Ikks off of usedregina.com along with Mishu. He loves celery and carrots. I made him banana treats and he loves those too. Lily loves them as well.

I love my rabbits and would do anything for them.

Your Pregnant Rabbit

So, you just found out that your rabbit is pregnant. She started pulling fur and nesting. You have no idea what to do.
Or she just kindled and you have a bunch of babies on your hands.

If she is nesting or has already had the babies you need to give her whole oats and alfalfa hay and LOTS of fresh, clean water. Check on the babies every day and see that they are warm and their bellies are full but not stretched. You can handle them as soon as their mother washes them off after birth. Handle them often if you want them to be used to being held. Avoid wearing heavy perfumes while handling the babies.

I myself think that my rabbit is pregnant, so I needed the information and decided to share it with you guys.

Getting Started

Rabbits are NOT rodents. They are lagomorphs. Just for you people who didn't know that. It is valuable information.

They Will Need:

A big cage or hutch (they can live outside as long as you put them outside in spring or fall so they can get used to the temperature changes)
Timothy Hay (Not alfalfa)
Oats can be fed a few tablespoons a day
Good rabbit vet (emphasis on the rabbit)
Wire or rubber grooming brush
Wood toys or plastic baby toys
Heating and cooling pads (for fever and cold weather)
Pet carrier big enough for your pet to stand up and turn around in
Exercise pens or X-pens for playtime outside or inside
Water and food bowls
Hay rack or basket
